Words

Words are powerful.

Spoken. Thought. Written.

Some words are spoken about us or to us. They may be kind…or not.

Words have the incredible potential to color how we see ourselves and the place we hold in the world.

Negativity spoken over us can crush our spirit and steal our joy. Words are small but they hold the powerful seed which can multiply and bring increase or rob us of our hope. It takes great boldness to stand firm when that which feels much bigger than us looms large.

Proverbs 18:21 – Words kill, words give life;  they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.    –  The Message

We each will face our own set of challenges and circumstances throughout life and some will bring agony, pain, and questions. It is up to us how we handle each one.

Mary Gannon (click here to watch an amazing video) a middle school teacher from Ohio is a favorite among her students. She faces each day with challenges most can only imagine. Born with no arms, she continually proves the only boundaries in life are ones we set for ourselves.

She doen’t allow her disability to limit her. Mary was adopted at a young age from a Mexican orphanage by a family who refused to treat her as disabled. They intentinally chose see what she  what she couldn’t do but instead to view her as a beautiful little girl bursting with unlimited potential and possibility. Today she inspires her students to reach for more, see beyond their limitations and not allow what they see in the natural to stymie what they can be. Mary has made the choice to embrace her life with bravery and a simple abundance of joy. She brings the same wonder and strength to her students, co-workers, family, and friends.
