faith sticks her tongue out

Big Steps

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Faith is a funny thing. It has no problem believing your mistakes are going to be a good thing. She sticks her tongue out at doubt simply because. Faith does not make sense. It is both the best and hardest of choices to live a life of faith.

All the problems we wrestle with, faith looks at them blankly. She sits, firmly planted with arms crossed. Immovable. Unwavering.

We can believe this wholeheartedly and still struggle. You may be facing overwhelm on every side and feel fragile and afraid. Others may speak words intended to be helpful but instead, add salt to your wounds. “If you were more faithful, prayed more, gave more or did more… this would not be happening to you.”

May I be the one today who stands next to you, holds your hand and whispers in your ear. You are enough in every way. You may not feel strong or bold or courageous, but the one who loves you most is and He sees your inmost being and loves you beyond all you can imagine.

By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. I’ve committed myself and I’ll never turn back from living by your righteous order. Everything’s falling apart on me, God; put me together again with your Word.  Psalm 119: 105-106   The Message

Step. Step. Step.

  • Is faith only about trust in God?
  • Does faith ask questions or struggle to believe?
  • Is there space in our walk with God to question Him?
  •  Are we less Christian because we have big questions or even struggle with some of the mess that lurks on the edge of our lives?

We may not see the whole staircase. Only the next step… and even then there are times in which this most important of steps is hidden in darkness.
