Creativity

We are born creative. Children are naturally inquisitive and curious. Play is their work and they love to explore. No one has told them about limitations or failures. They simply spin dance, sing and try new things. When they fall, they get up and try again.

As adults, our creativity often is hidden behind harsh words spoken over us in the past. We struggle to believe in our ability to be creative.

Give Yourself Permission To Be Creative

Creative living is for anyone willing to live a life of beauty and possibility. Reclaiming creativity is not about perfection but about being brave. Life doesn’t change until you risk stepping out of your comfort zone and into the unknown. Being creative is for everyone.

If you keep living the same way, you will… live the same way. If creativity isn’t a part of your work and play, life becomes stale and stagnant. Like a still pond with no flowing water, nothing grows.

Give Yourself Permission to be a Beginner.

Have you always wanted to learn photography or make sushi?  Find a class and a friend to learn with. There is nothing to fear. When you begin to unleash your own special kind of creativity a whole new world opens up.

You will make mistakes. But, when you try there is great joy in the learning. Be brave and try.

Host a dinner party and create beauty through the meal you set before your guests. The atmosphere in your home and the way you welcome them into the room is a creative act. The food you prepare is a love language and an opportunity to build community with those who sit with you.

The next time you hear your favorite song, sing. Dance and wiggle your tush like a three-year-old. Laugh at yourself. Life is short and the world needs your creative voice and the joy it brings.

What would you explore with a bit of unleashed creativity? What inspires you? Solitude? Music? Colors? Water? Nature? Whatever it is, fill your life with as much of it as possible!

Give Yourself Permission to Try Something New

Try something new and when it’s hard, whisper to yourself, grace, not perfection. God who breathed his very breath into you is the creator of all things. Within you is a longing for beauty. Start, Try. Do something new. It is not about perfection. Fail if you must, but try. Remember YOU are born creative.

It will take time to weave creativity back into your life, but little changes open up opportunities for more of what feeds your soul.

Give Yourself Permission to Prime the Creative Pump

Our worth and value are connected to our Creator. If God is creative and we are made in his image than we are too. When you nurture the creativity God has placed within you it brings him great joy.

Just as we are delighted when our children use their gifts, so is he when we use ours!

And God created man in His own image. Genesis 1:26

  1. Thank you, Nancy! I’m so glad God directed you to share these encouragements. Between grief, covid restrictions and isolation, I had lost my ability to write or do anything creative. The point that jumped out is: give yourself permission to be a beginner. I love color and creating art, but my attempts are definitely beginner-ish! I truly believe that we are created to be creative. Thank you and God bless you.

I had withdrawn from writing for quite a while. Very recently I’ve gotten back into it and I’m having a great time. The ideas are flowing again. Thank you for this added push to be creative.

    1. Lorraine- so great to hear from you and I am thrilled you are inspired to start creating again. There are times and seasons and then there are those times we simply need to push through and begin again.
